Two Looms. One Story.

This is not a saree made in a day. It is the convergence of two of Karnataka's most storied handloom traditions, each with its own geography, its own grammar, its own soul, brought together and then embroidered entirely by hand.

Molkalmuru and Ilkal

Molkalmuru, from the red-earth district of Chitradurga, is woven on mulberry silk with temple borders that have earned GI protection since 2011. Every motif is a devotional act. The weavers here do not simply weave, they consecrate.

Ilkal, over 1,200 years old and rooted in Bagalkot, carries a secret that no other handloom in the world replicates: the Tope Teni technique, a loop-join where the body and pallu are woven as one continuous cloth, never cut, never seamed. The saree does not end. It transforms.

The Embroidery

Once both handlooms were woven, the work began again, by hand. Glass beads, gold zari, and meticulous surface embroidery applied stitch by stitch across the body and borders. No shortcuts. No machines. No compromises.

The result is a textile that carries the weight of two weaving communities, two GI-protected traditions, and hundreds of hours of skilled artisan labour.
