Ilkal Checks Patchwork Lehenga with Peacock-Blue Ilkal Dupatta

Our Ilkal checks come from our weavers in Ilkal, Bagalkot, an ancient weaving centre whose loom history goes back to the 8th century AD. The name itself comes from ilu + kallu: slope and stone.

The same small checks our grandmothers wore every day. Worn for generations, not seasons. We reimagined them as a lehenga: a patchwork of rani pink, haldi yellow, parrot green, indigo and vermillion, each panel handwoven, not printed. Held together with fine zari threadwork and a vintage hand embroidered border, woven in the traditional way where the pallu joins the body with a loop.

Paired with a peacock-blue Ilkal dupatta in the same chikki checks.
